Positive Parenting

Raising a child is a rewarding and exciting experience, but as a parent or caregiver, it is completely normal for you to face challenges along the way.

FIRST 5 offers FREE programs and services to provide you with support and information to move past these challenges and create a positive relationship with your child.

Positive Parenting Program (Triple P)

Triple P is program that provides support to help you guide your child’s behavior in a positive way that reduces stress and builds strong family relationships. The program offers practical answers, parenting support, and simple tips for raising a happy and confident child – allowing you to pick what works best for your family.

Triple P will help you:

  • Encourage the behaviors you like and manage misbehavior
  • Set rules that everyone respects and follows
  • Take care of yourself as a parent and feel confident you are doing the right thing
  • Raise happy, confident kids

Every parent has different needs, so whether you are looking for a few simple tips or more in-depth support resolving a complex family issue, there is a Triple P program for you.

If you are a parent or caregiver with a child under age six and are looking for general information on positive parenting, Triple P Seminars are for you. You will join other parents to learn simple tips that make tricky situations (like when your toddler refuses to pick up his toys or eat her lunch) a little easier!

Learn simple tips to handle common parenting issues

Is this program for me?
If you are a parent or caregiver with a child under age six and are looking for general information on positive parenting, Triple P Seminars are for you. You will join other parents to learn simple tips that make tricky situations (like when your toddler refuses to pick up his toys or eat her lunch) a little easier!

Time Commitment: There are three different Triple P Seminars, each 90 minutes long, which cover the following topics:

  • The Power of Positive Parenting
  • Raising Confident and Competent Children
  • Raising Resilient Children

You can sign up for one, two, or all three seminars.

Location: Classes are held at FIRST 5 Family Resource Centers and other locations throughout Santa Clara County.

Registration: Please view the calendar below to find an upcoming Triple P Seminar near you. Once you have selected a seminar, please call the contact person listed to pre-register.

Child supervision is available during the seminars and pre-registration for this service is requested.

Triple P Groups: 
Receive in-depth support for managing concerning child behaviors

If you are a parent or caregiver who faces daily struggles with your child’s behavior and are looking for more in-depth support to help manage unwanted behaviors (like aggression) and prevent situations that make family life stressful, Triple P Groups are for you.

Triple P Groups

Is this program for me?
If you are a parent or caregiver who faces daily struggles with your child’s behavior and are looking for more in-depth support to help manage unwanted behaviors (like aggression) and prevent situations that make family life stressful, Triple P Groups are for you.

You will join a small group of parents with similar concerns to learn positive parenting strategies. You will also attend individual sessions to get guidance and support tailored to your family’s specific needs.

Three different types of Triple P Groups are offered:

  • Standard Groups – For parents of children with severe behavioral difficulties, these groups cover Triple P’s 17 core positive parenting skills which can be applied to a wide range of parenting situations.
  • Stepping Stones – For parents of children with a disability, these groups provide strategies that have shown to work for children with intellectual and physical disabilities who have disruptive behaviors.
  • Family Transitions – For parents whose separation or divorce is complicating their parenting, these groups provide relevant strategies and tools to positively manage this difficult life change.

Time CommitmentEach group program includes five to six group sessions and three individual sessions. Each session is roughly 2 hours long.

Location: Classes are held at locations throughout Santa Clara County.

They will work with you to answer questions and ensure you are registered for the program that best fits your needs.
