HIGH 5 Partner Appreciation Award Recipients

Q4 2010 High 5 Award Winner:

Honorable Patrick Tondreau of Santa Clara County Superior Court, Presiding and Supervising Judge of the Juvenile Justice Court

Currently, there are approximately 175 pregnant and parenting teens in the juvenile probation system. The youth are generally in court for issues related to delinquency, drug use, gang violence, theft, etc.

Judge Tondreau is a champion for healthy development of children and a strong advocate of FIRST 5. He realized that the children of the teens in the system need support and connection to services and programs so that they can be can be successful in life and reach their full potential.

Judge Tondreau refers FIRST 5 services directly from the bench and through probation officers. Due to his efforts the probation system has received training on the importance of developmental screening for young children and are actively making referrals.

Judge Tondreau has the insight to not only think about the crimes that have led the teen to his court, but he thinks about the children that they might be parenting and the kinds of supports these children need in order to have the opportunity for successful futures.

Congratulations Judge Tondreau!
