FIRST 5 Santa Clara County LAUNCHES New Web Site Connecting Families to Community Information

Santa Clara County, CA – FIRST 5 Santa Clara County today launched its newly redesigned Web site offering a central hub for the community to access information and resources to help raise healthy children. The new interactive Web site was designed with four audiences in mind – parents, partners, community and media. Featured topics include: the latest research on early child development, parenting tips, information on how to find a pediatrician, access to free or low cost health insurance, guidelines for choosing quality child care and preschools, and suggestions for activities and events for families throughout Santa Clara County.

“Families need parenting information at their fingertips,” said Cora Tomalinas, FIRST 5 Santa Clara County Commission Chairperson. “Our new Web site connects families to information, answers and resources that help them with parenting and provides ideas for quality family time and entertainment.”

The Web site is a communication vehicle linking FIRST 5 partners to upcoming events, trainings, meetings and announcements. For media, the site offers resource information to enhance the development of articles on early childhood related topics and connection to the experts in the field.

About FIRST 5 Santa Clara County
Research shows that a child’s brain develops most dramatically in the first five years and what parents and caregivers do during these years to support their child’s growth will have a meaningful impact throughout life. Based on this research, California voters passed Proposition 10 in 1998, adding a 50 cents tax on tobacco products to support programs for expectant parents and children ages 0 to 5. In Fiscal Year 2006-07, FIRST 5 Santa Clara County will distribute approximately $31 million in Prop. 10 revenues to programs and services that meet local needs.
