Mountain View, California—The City of Mountain View held a groundbreaking ceremony for its new Child-Care Center on Monday, January 7, 2008, at 3:30 p.m. The new Child-Care Center will be built near the Senior Center, located at 266 Escuela Avenue.
New Child-Care Center—This is an exciting community facility that has been in the planning stages for a number of years. Its fruition has been a result of the dedicated people and organizations that have been part of making it a reality, including several City Councils for over eight years. The Center will meet the need for infant through 5 year-old child care for the local community. The new Center is scheduled to open in September 2008.
In July 2007, the City Council approved plans and specifications for the Child-Care Center and bids were awarded for construction in September 2007. The Center will be operated by the Children's Creative Learning Center (CCLC), a locally based, prominent national provider of child-care center services. It will be a high-quality Center that will seek national accreditation through CCLC's efforts. It will serve approximately 104 children from infants to 5 years of age.
The Center will have several community-use features, including a Community Resource Room that will have parenting information (in multiple languages), and it will add a children's playground to the area (which will be available for non Center use when the Center is not open).
This project has been made possible through a partnership with the David and Lucile Packard Foundation.
Mayor Laura Macias noted: "It is through the collective efforts of many that Mountain View offers the essential service of child care to our community. Through collaboration throughout the City and beyond, Mountain View is a happier and healthier place to live. We would hope we can inspire other cities to respond to the important needs of families with child care too."
