It is our pleasure to present to you the FIRST 5 Santa Clara County Early Childhood Obesity Prevention Strategic Plan. FIRST 5 is very concerned about the rising rates of childhood obesity in our community and can no longer wait until children are school-age to address this growing problem. This strategic plan outlines specific programmatic and policy-level actions we can take as a community to help address children’s needs for healthier foods and eating practices, as well as appropriate levels of physical activity.

We would like to thank all of the contributors to this plan including: the Early Childhood Obesity Prevention Collaborative, local officials who comprise the Policy Workgroup, and community members who contributed their input in designing the plan. We feel that with the investment the community has shown thus far, we are on the road to success in combating childhood obesity at its earliest point.
