FIRST 5 Commission



"There is a compelling need in California to create and implement a comprehensive, collaborative, and integrated system of information and services to promote, support, and optimize early childhood development from the prenatal stage to five years of age."

California Children & Families First Act of 1998 The Commission in Santa Clara County consists of nine commissioners appointed by the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors. Its membership includes:
  • A member of the Board of Supervisors
  • The Executive Director of the Santa Clara Valley Health and Hospital System
  • The Director of the Social Services Agency
  • A member of the Santa Clara County Local Early Education Planning Council
  • Five at-large members of the community
