Akemi Flynn, Commissioner

Akemi Flynn is the Director of Operations for People Acting in Community Together (PACT), a multi-ethnic, interfaith organization that helps everyday people win extraordinary victories, not by speaking for them, but by teaching them how to speak, act and engage in the public arena for themselves. Ms. Flynn has over 15 years experience working in non-profits and nongovernmental organizations primarily in Santa Clara County but also in New England and Southeast Asia. Her work has focused on child and youth development, refugee and immigrant families and multicultural community building. She previously served at operations director at Sherman Oaks Community Charter School a dual immersion (Spanish-English) elementary school and founding executive director of Project Cornerstone, a county-wide multi-sector collaborative working to shift our community from simply reacting to children and youth as problems to recognizing and building on the strengths of young people.

Ms. Flynn has a Masters in Social Work from San Jose State University. Most importantly, she is the mother of two young children.
