Margo Dutton served as Executive Director of Palo Alto Community Child Care (PACCC) from 1993-2007. PACCC operates 18 child care centers and the Provider Connection, a resource center for Child Development Professionals. After serving for more than twelve years as Recreation Supervisor for the City of Palo Alto, she became the City's Administrator of Human Services in 1985. In this capacity, she was instrumental in convening Palo Alto's second citywide Child Care Task Force. The resulting Master Plan for Child Care led to the provision of after-school child care at every Palo Alto elementary school site. In addition, she successfully secured funds for the City's first Child Care Coordinator.
The community organizations in which she has served include the Kiwanis Club of Palo Alto (President, 2003-2004, receiving the Distinguished Kiwanian award in 2004), YWCA of the Mid Peninsula (Board member 1989-2002 and President 1991-1992), co-Chair of the YWCA of the Mid Peninsula Donor Advised Fund (2004), Palo Alto Child Care Advisory Committee (2000-present), Santa Clara County Local Child Care Planning Council (2001-present; co-Chair 2005-2006), the Palo Alto Unified School District Attendance Area Advisory Group (2006), and the Palo Alto Building Blue Ribbon Task Force (2006).
In 1997, she was honored by the Palo Alto Chamber of Commerce with the Tall Tree Award for Outstanding Professional.
