Health grant applicants sought
Health insurers UnitedHealth Group and PacifiCare are seeking applications from California health care organizations for $25 million in grants, part of $50 million in charitable donations the companies pledged in 2005 to win regulatory approval of their $8.1 billion merger.
Qualified groups, such as community health clinics, may apply for the grants that will each range from $100,000 to $5 million. The money will be awarded in four stages over the next three years, with the first batch of grants becoming available in December.
The money will go to efforts to improve technology, education programs, preventive health efforts and coordinated care initiatives.
