Mountain View Receives FIRST 5 Family Services Grant

The City of Mountain View’s Childcare Center was awarded a $23,500 in-kind services grant from FIRST 5 of Santa Clara County to provide essential services for families in need in the community.

The City’s new Childcare Center is in the final phase of construction just north of the Senior Center, and will be located at 260 Escuela Avenue.

It is a new community facility that has been in the planning stages for a number of years. Its development has been the result of the dedicated people and organizations that have been part of making it a reality; including several City Councils for over eight years.

The Center will meet the need for infant through five-year old childcare for the local community. The Center will be operated by the Children’s Creative Learning Center (CCLC), a locally based, prominent National provider of childcare center services. It will be a high quality Center that will seek National Accreditation through CCLC’s efforts. It will serve approximately 104 children from infants to 5 years of age.

The Childcare Center will include a Community Resource Room (CRR), and the City is delighted that FIRST 5 has agreed to provide the City with a part-time staff Family Resource Specialist, shopping vouchers to complete a lending library, and funding for healthy snacks during the Center’s programmed activities. This in-kind grant award has an approximate annual value of $23,500.

The Family Resource Specialist will work part-time at the CRR and part-time at the San Antonio Center linking the two centers together. Both Centers will offer parent/child workshops, child development evaluations, resources, and referrals. The San Antonio Center will continue to offer family counseling and evaluation while the CRR will provide activities, information, and referrals needed within the Castro/Escuela neighborhood.

In continued collaboration with regional agencies the City submitted its grant proposal in the Spring. The in-kind support by FIRST 5 will help the City to provide activities to parents/caregivers and their children, educational classes, and support referrals. The Community Services Agency will also provide case management for families. With this collaboration from CCLC, the North Region Partnership, and community partners the City’s Community Resource Room will link available resources and services to families in Mountain View.

The Mountain View Childcare Center has been made possible through collaborations and partnerships with major organizations in our region such as the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, First 5 of Santa Clara County, North County FIRST 5 Regional Partnership (comprised of the Palo Alto Child Care Centers (PACCC), MVLA Adult School, Jewish Family and Children Services, Parents Place, Parents Helping Parents, and the Community Health Awareness Council (CHAC)).

Mayor Tom Means noted “It is through the partnerships with many of the organizations in our region that Mountain View is able to provide this vital service to our community. The City is proud to have the Childcare Center awarded this in-kind grant. We know that it will be a success at providing essential childcare and services to families in need.”
